July 11 Camp 2016
Age Range: 13-18
Description:
This two-day mini summer camp will completely immerse kids in the world of voice-over. Students will learn about the voice-over industry and what it takes to pursue a career, full or part-time in this field.
Topics covered will include:
- What is voice-over? It’s a huge field and growing/changing all the time
- Working in a studio
- Working in a home studio
- Best audition techniques for all voice-over styles
- Microphone technique
- How to effectively deliver commercial copy
- How to create up to 40 cartoon and video game characters in under an hour
- Editing and sound skills (necessary in today’s voice-over world)
- Professional etiquette
- Vocal care/breathing
- Foley—what is it? How to do it?
- How to work with agents

About the instructor:
Shana Pennington-Baird has been working in the Pacific Northwest theatre scene for twenty years. In addition to acting, Shana has produced concert series, managed large and small theatre festivals and summer camps, and planned events for small and large non-profits. After receiving a BFA in Theatre from Stephens College, she toured with the Missoula Children’s Theatre and settled in Seattle. Shana directed the theatre summer camps for the Icicle Creek Theatre Festival for four years and has extensively taught ages 13-21. Shana has worked with the Bathhouse Theatre, 5th Ave Musical Theatre, Oregon Cabaret, Seattle Shakespeare Company, Civic Light Opera, ACT Theatre, Icicle Creek Theatre Festival, Okoboji Summer Theatre, and Book-It Repertory.
Shana’s voice-over clients include the Seattle Channel, Illustrum Games, Portland History Project, Impossible Acoustic, Seattle Genetics, the South Lake Union Chamber, Audible.com and more.
